Congratulations Dr. Janice D. Busingye

Dr Janice Desire Busingye, a staff member at the School of Distance and Lifelong Learning recently graduated with a PhD in Adult Education from the University of KwaZulu– Natal. Janice has shared with us the abstract for her research.

School of Education wins Tuning Africa project in East and Central Africa

The School of Education has competed with 200 universities in East, Central and Southern Africa to emerge the only winner of the Tuning Africa project in East and Central Africa. The project is funded by the European Union and aims to harmonize training curricula between European and African Universities.

Phd Dissemination Series: Management Capacity Building at Makerere University

School of Education lecturer, Dr Ronald Bisaso presented his PhD research findings at the 10th PhD Dissemination series that were held on Friday 9 March 2012.

Co author of Adult Literacy Book visits College of Education and External Studies


On 13 April 2012, the School of Distance and Lifelong Learning (SODLL) and Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL) were proud to host Dr Juliet McCaffrey, co author of “Developing adult literacy Approaches to Planning, Implementing and delivering literacy initiatives”. Dr McCaffrey shared her work experience and research in adult education including highlights from the book.


School of Education pioneers Education for Sustainable Development at Makerere University


Over 30 students and staff participated in a dissemination seminar on the development of an Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Curriculum in the School of Education on 29 March 2012. The seminar organised by Dr Victoria Kaggwa Tamale from DFC and Dr Mathias Bwanika from DHLE, aimed to disseminate the findings of an audit carried out on the status of ESD in the School of Education.

Gender mainstreaming workshop training

College of Education and External Studies staff were on 19 March 2012 tasked to integrate gender sensitivity in all activities including planning and budgeting. This was during a one day Gender Planning and Budgeting workshop organised by the Gender Mainstreaming Directorate (GMD) at the MACE Board Room, SODLL.

School of Education Hosts Liberian Students

The School of Education (SOE) is hosting 10 Masters students from Liberia as part of the partnership between Makerere University, USAID and Liberia Teacher Training Program (LTTP). Makerere University SOE recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with LTTP.

The students  who arrived on 10th January underwent a special orientation and catch up sessions. This was done to ease their study this semester since they joined in semester two.

The 2nd Invitational Conference on Lifelong Learning and Social Exclusion in an International Context

The conference on the theme Lifelong Learning and Social Exclusion in and International context was organised by the Department of Education (Lifelong Learning). The conference was held  from May 24th  to 30th , 2012 in Groningen, the Netherlands. The conference is a joint effort of the Department of Lifelong Leaning, University of Groningen and Globalisation Studies Groningen.

The Principal, College of Education and External Studies (CEES) invites interested Students and members of the general public to participate in the skills development training aimed at developing participants’ skill in Project Proposal Writing and Resource Mobilization to be conducted by the Centre for Lifelong Learning (CLL).
