Call for Abstracts - African Association for History Education (AHE-Afrika)’s Second International Conference on “Teaching and learning history in a changing Africa: possibilities and challenges in the 21st century”

We invite submissions from scholars and postgraduate students, as well as from practitioners and researchers working in government, the NGO sector and other institutions. We are especially keen to host presentations from African scholars.
Prospective participants should submit abstracts of no more than 300 words, with 3 keywords, together with a brief biography of no more than 100 words.

Mainstreaming Community University Engagement and Community Based Research

Dr George Openjuru, Assoc. Prof. and Dean School of Distance and Lifelong Learning represented Makerere University College of Education and External Studies at the CUVIC 2014 University of Victoria Conference from 19th to 22nd May 2014. The conference titled ‘Beyond Engagement: Creating Integration, Innovation & Impact’, witnessed engaging keynote presentations, workshops, poster sessions and field trips.


MAK& Missisipi State University: Research and Collaboration direction

Mississippi State University (MSU) has expressed interest to partner with Makerere University (MAK).

Discussions are going on and the team from MSU and MAK will work together to develop a broad MOU that encompasses all the elements of potential areas of collaboration.


FENU Lifelong Learning Thematic Group Meeting


On Wednesday 9th April 2014, the School of Distance and Lifelong Learning hosted Forum for Education NGOs in Uganda (FENU) lifelong learning thematic group meeting.

The seminar was attended by over twenty participants from different NGOs and Civil Service Organizations and staff from the School of Distance and Lifelong Learning.

Call for abstract for a book chapter

The College of Education and External Studies (CEES) Makerere University, Editorial Board invites abstract for chapters in a book titled “CONTEMPORARY ISSUES IN EDUCATIONAL RESEARCH, POLICIES AND PRACTICE IN THE GLOBAL SOUTH”  The primary purpose of this book is to draw attention to issues in educational research, policies and practice in the global south with emphasis on Uganda and Africa.


CEES Students graduate at 64th Graduation of Makerere University

Thursday 30th, January 2014, Students from the College of Education and external Studies in the third session of the 64th Graduation were award degrees and Diplomas. The ceremony was successful.

The Academic RegistrarMakerere University invites applications for admission to Graduate Programmes (Postgraduate Diplomas, Masters and Doctoral degree Programmes) for the 2014/2015 Academic Year.  Applicants should have obtained at least a first degree or its equivalent from a recognized and chartered university/institution.

University of Venda courts Makerere University

The University of Venda, South Africa, is looking at possible areas of collaboration with Makerere University. Dr. Ndebele Clever, the Director of the Centre for Higher Education Teaching and Learning is on a one-week visit to Makerere University to benchmark with Makerere University and adopt best practices that can be emulated by University of Venda.
