Research Commons Facilitate now open at Main Library

The Research Commons facilitate located on Second Floor of the New Library Building is open to eligible Makerere University Graduate students and Researchers (Academic Staff/ faculty). Opening of the Commons started on Monday 5th December, 2011.

The core functions of RC will include:

  • provide interactive learning tools, i.e. the RC is be a laboratory, and
  •  a space for knowledge reaction
  • provide a genuinely new and differentiated research assistance to
  • researchers from the inception of the research process to submitting/
  •  publishing.
  • provide specialized support in specific subject domains and research skills

 

Research Commons Services

  1. Help spot/ Ask a Librarian Desk (via e-mail, Instant Message (IM),
  2. Telephone, and Text)
  3.  Desktop Computers with specialty software
  4. E-resources and database search support
  5. Computer workstations
  6.  Printing, scanning and copying facilities
  7.  Multimedia services and digital project planning
  8. Numerical and geospatial data analysis
  9. Collaborative workspaces
  10.  Research Reference Collections

Therefore, the RC are equipped with interactive learning tools, genuinely new and differentiated research assistance; and specialised support in specific subject domains and research skills.

Given the shortage of staff, the facilitate will only open 8:00am to 5:00pm, Monday to Friday and will remain closed on Saturdays and Sundays until the staffing situation improves.
